Academic Writing & Editing

Make your research easier to understand.

What this service is

Good research can be hard to read. Academic editing improves the clarity, structure and tone of your writing without changing your findings or your voice. Depending on your needs, support ranges from light proofreading to substantive structural editing and writing-development feedback.

Who it is for

  • Researchers and students writing in English as an additional language
  • Authors preparing manuscripts, reports or grant applications
  • Students who want feedback on argument and structure before submitting
  • Faculty who want a second reader on a draft

What we can help with

  • Academic proofreading
  • Language editing
  • Structural editing
  • Clarity and coherence editing
  • Academic tone
  • Argument development
  • Scientific writing
  • Literature synthesis
  • Citation and reference consistency
  • APA, Vancouver, Harvard, MLA, Chicago and IEEE styles
  • Journal-specific formatting

What the process looks like

  1. Choose the level of editing

Proofreading, language editing or structural editing, depending on your draft and purpose.

  2. Send your document with requirements

Include the style guide, journal instructions or assignment brief that applies.

  3. Edit with visible changes

Edits and queries are shown so you can accept, reject and learn from them.

  4. You finalise

You review every change and remain responsible for the final text.

Every project is scoped before pricing. You receive the proposed scope, deliverables, timeline and fee before work begins.

What you receive

  • An edited document with tracked changes and margin queries
  • A short summary of recurring issues in your writing
  • Consistent citations and reference list in your required style
  • Suggestions for restructuring where the argument is hard to follow

What we do not do

  • Change your results, conclusions or data
  • Insert references you have not read or that do not exist
  • Rewrite text so it evades similarity-detection software
  • Present editing as original authorship

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between proofreading and editing?

Proofreading corrects surface errors such as spelling, punctuation and typographical mistakes. Language and structural editing also address sentence clarity, flow, paragraph structure and organisation of the argument.

Which referencing styles do you support?

APA, Vancouver, Harvard, MLA, Chicago and IEEE, plus journal-specific formats. Please send the style guide you must follow.

Do you use AI tools on my document?

Please raise this with us at scoping. We will agree in writing how your document is handled, and you should check your institution's or journal's policy on tool use and disclosure.

Discuss your project with us.
